He was my taxi driver. When we arrived at my destination and I was paying him he reminded me that we had met before.
“Where?” I couldn’t remember...
“A few days ago. You got to the bus stop a moment too late. The bus was pulling away. I was right behind that bus. I stopped and waved to you and yelled, ‘Get in, we’ll catch the bus at the next stop.’ But you waved me away. ‘Thanks but I’m going to walk!’"
Now I remembered. “I wasn’t under any pressure. Otherwise I would have hired you.”
He protested gently. “I wasn’t hustling for a fare. I was just trying to help you catch your bus!”
