Dear Vicki and Tim,
I am very much alive and very much well.
Actively involved planning the trajectory of my next venture:
Finding a global sponsor for You! be the Judge as the base for a Common Global Humanity!
The only problem I have is dealing with how others are reacting to my growing older.
“Oh, sweetie, can I help you!”
I finally figured out a series of responses to get all those people – and the number is growing! – off my back
For instance:
“Oh, sweetie, can i help you!”
I Reply:
“Oh, thank you so much. This year I’m fine. But next year I will need your help!”
For instance
I'm waiting for the bus.
The bus arrives. The doors open.
The young person in front of me stands aside and waves me forward.
I Reply
“Thanks so much, but you’re much older than i am”
and wave “her” ahead of me.
She stops dead in her tracks, suddenly realizes the ridiculousness of what I’m saying,
a big grin spreads on her face, she giggles, and accepts my invitation!
I have added a new retort to my already long list of retorts.
Now if someone offers to help, I respond with a big grin on my face.
“You’re so kind. I have just turned 90.....but inside I feel like 50!!!!!!!!!!!!”
The person is stunned. She's in a state of shock
Her eyes open wide. The pupils dilate
She grabs hold of something.
“No, I can’t believe it. 90!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
And then she recoups.
"You’re right, you don’t look a day over 50!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
Miss you Tim,
and how lucky you are to have Vicki
Hugs and kisses
Claire
Postscript
My model for living is Iris Apfel.
She is 96.
I am modelling my longevity after hers.
Every year she adds to her life
I add to my life expectancy.
In the meantime, I try to live life
with the same involvement she lives hers.
the same joy and delight,
the same appreciation of the ridiculous -
the same capacity of not taking herself seriously,
and always with the twinkle in her eye....and the humor!
