It's now out in the open.
So many people are miserable in their jobs.
And it's no different no matter how high up you are in the social scale.
I remember playing chamber music with 3 young doctors who had just finished their residencies in their individual specialty.
And I remember how shocked I was to hear what they talked about in between movements:
"Hey guys, let's plan what we're going to do 20 years from now when we retire!"
There are options. But you've got to be ready to cross the line!
One librarian felt trapped.
"I haven't got one moment to myself, what with the demands of the job and my family."
Her solution?
She left for the library 1/2 hour earlier.
Parked the car 1/2 mile away.
And had 1/2 hour in the morning and 1/2 hour in the afternoon she could have all to herself!
Then the magical thing happened.
Once she crossed the line, other possibilities opened up.
She was no longer "trapped."
Other possibilities opened up
So many people are trapped in work which they hate
because they listen to inner voices telling them to "do the right thing"
One man had a burning desire to become a journalist when he was a young man.
It was depression years. His family needed his help in the business to survive.
He gave up his dream....
And he continued to do the right thing.....until he finally retired.
40 years later. A lifetime.
But with a happy ending.
The first thing he did was walk into the Montreal Star, showed what he had written all those years.
And immediately got a job as a journalist.
He was lucky to have a few years at the end of his working life to do what he loved.
Others were not so lucky.
Another man had always nourished a secret dream of becoming an architect.
He was an exceptional mechanic who was a perfectionist
and who got great pleasure and pride from doing a beautiful piece of work.
He loved his work building sailboats.
He quit his first job after 20 years.
The owner of the shop had gotten greedy. He wanted the business to earn more money.
He wanted to turn out more sailboats. He pushed his workforce to work faster and faster.
There was no longer the time to do a job to be proud of. The mechanic quit.
He got another job. 20 years later, he quit for the same reason.
Now was the time to realize his dream. He applied to architectural school. He was accepted.
Too late.

His memory could no longer retain the information.
The stories are different when a person "defies" what is the "proper" thing to do.
and listen to their own authentic voices.
The woman had run a successful business operation. Her health gave out. She had to sell.
She tried cooking. Her back couldn't take it.
Before the health had given out she had lived a life "To the manner born."
She threw it all to the winds and took up Dog-Walking.
And after 10 years she is still having a ball. Everybody on the street knows her. They stop to chat.
She enjoys the street life. Loves the dogs.

And how did she respond when she was first asked the question,
"But what would your friends think of you being a dog-walker?"
"I COULDN'T GIVE A DAMN!"
One man was a successful mover.
He moved pianos. He loved his work. He was fast at his work.
And then one day his back gave out.
What to do?
He found the solution.
He bought himself a pair of roller skates with attached boots.
He quit his piano moving company and found a small moving company moving small boxes .
He was even speedier on his skates.
And now found great satisfaction being able with his speed to save moving costs for smaller clients who didn't have big pockets

His boss? Thrilled at how word got around at his imaginative "Speedy Gonzolos" mover
and business was jumping!

Stuck in a Job you Cant Stand? Part 2 The young are lucky. They have the backing of society to make different choices than their parents.
