After the Montreal Star became defunct, the Montreal Gazette snapped up Legal-Ease

and I then syndicated it across the country.

One major change. The column was now based on common law which I had never studied,

But it didn't seem to matter! The written case had it all: the facts... and the law!

Syndication itself was easy.

No paper now had to take a gamble on an "untested" column.

Besides, it was the first legal writing that everyone could understand...and enjoy!

Legal-Ease lasted 6 years when a mini-depression in Canada ended its life prematurely.

Four years later You! be the Judge was born and became a nation-wide phenomenon.

And all this happened because I started out with a passion that drove me to write a law column

but didn't even know what a column was!
